Materials

Step 1
Cutting the template
The template on this page is the actual size of the front and side corner profiles of the window box.
With the scissors cut out all the way round
from this page and put to one side.

Step 2
Making the front
Take a length from your dismantled pallet, if the end of the length is not square or damaged, measure in a few centimetres, mark with the square and pencil, then cut with the hand saw.
Mark from the new cut end the length of the template which is 22cms, you will need six lengths.
Please use the image provided in he PDF

Step 3
Marking and cutting the profiles Place the template onto your first cut 22cm length, with the straight edge flush with the outside running edge of the wood as illustrated.
Pencil from the edge of the profile onto the wood, then mark on the wood, top and bottom. Repeat this to all lengths.
Cutting Using the jig-saw start at the top (fig A) around the top curve then stop. Take the saw out and start again at the bottom(fig B) Saw up to the top curve pull the excess wood away.

Step 4
Making the front
Take another length from your pallet stockpile, measure 54cms, mark and cut. Now place an off-cut upright onto the outside edge of the profile (fig A) and mark with the pencil on each cut profiles.
Place the two profiles apart as illustrated down onto the work surface. Now place the 54cm cut length down onto the profiles from each edge of the pencil line, then using two screws each end 4.0x40 screw into position.
The depth of the front is 17cms. Cut another length from your stockpile and repeat as above. If you find the next length is to wide, cut it down with the jig saw.

Step 5
Making the sides
You will need to make two of these.
This is the same process as in step 4. Place the two profiles down onto the work surface, mark a line as in (fig A) to both outside edges then cut two lengths 15cms long and screw into position. Now make another one.

Step 6
Joining sides to the front
Place your made front on it's end in a vice or on the floor, then place on end into the corner of the panel. Screw two screws into position. Turn it upsidedown and screw the other side into position.

Step 7
Making the back
Now that the box is taking shape, measure the inside front of the box and cut a length to this measurement. Place the box face down and place the cut length into position and screw down either end. Cut another length and repeat making sure the depth is 17cms.

Step 8
Making the bottom.
Turn the box upsidedown and measure the inside length of the box. Cut from your stockpile this length and screw i nto position, then cut another to make up the width, and again screw into position Drainage Holes Using a 16mm drill bit drill several holes into the bottom of the box.

Step 9
Finishing
If you are going to paint your box, you will need a smooth finish. Any screws on the outside of the box screw in just below the surface.Take the wood filler and a scraper or old credit card and fill all holes, leave to dry and sand off using sandpaper wrapped around an off-cut to get a flat finish.
If you have an orbital sander you can use this instead.
Painting
As this box will be outside paint with an exterior paint any colour to your choosing at least two coats- enjoy.
